There’s an old saying, “may you live in interesting times.”  We certainly do.  We are witnesses of the death of America as we know it and as our Founders established it.  When Obama said he rejected the failed policies of the Bush administration, I had some shred of hope that he meant overspending.  Unfortunately, he meant not spending enough.  Now every dollar comes with strings attached and the federal government and those in positions of power are systematically taking control of every aspect of our society.

They have already taken control of the automotive industry, banks, insurance industry, education of our children, and now they are making a play for the states sovereignty as well by telling the states they must spend Federal bailout dollars in the way the Feds specify.  One provision in the stimulus bill specifies if a state takes the money they agree that in the future the legislature has the power to skip the chief executive of the state and take the money directly, thus destroying the state’s executive branch power and enabling the people to elect people who promise them the most money.  If a state refuses to take money under this provision (as some are trying to do), they are being told they may never get money in the future if they need it.

This is the same blackmail that was used against Wells Fargo when they rejected bailout money a few months ago because they were healthy.  They were told if they didn’t take it they’d never get any in the future.  They were stuck and took the money.

This week we find that charities are now being assaulted.  Those dirty rich people that feel philanthropic are going to have new limits on what they can deduct, and in a down economy when charities are already being hit hard, this is going to create even more problems for raising money.  The way this will work is if you are in a tax bracket over 28%, then your deduction will be stopped at 28%.  For example, a 35% tax bracket taxpayer would normally get a credit of $3,500 off a fully deductible $10,000 contribution.  Under this new plan the credit would be limited to $2,800, thus giving the government the difference of $700 that could have gone straight to a charity the taxpayer feels is doing a good job providing a needed service.  It’s not a very hard stretch to see where the government will soon step in and make up the difference to “approved” charities who take government money in exchange for their “cooperation” and thus government will own charities as well.  (They already own many churches who took Bush’s money for “faith-based initiatives” and Obama has stated he plans to expand that program as well.)

We are beholding the systematic takeover of our freedoms individually and collectively.  In celebrating the orgy of power they have achieved, politicians are taking the next logical step and looking to shred freedom of speech to prevent dissent. The misnomer they call the “fairness doctrine” will make sure opposing views (ie. government approved) can be heard (as if the public wasn’t already bombarded with a 90% socialist viewpoint on major news outlets).

This is plain and simple fascism.  The merging of government and industry leads to no good thing.  It leads to silencing dissent.  It leads to internal thought police. Hitler first confiscated guns (to make the people docile) and then established an internal police force to ensure compliance with his policies.  Our new president has publicly stated he wants to have an internal police force in the states that would rival our military in strength.  Can you imagine supporting TWO full bodies of military troops?  One for foreign issues and one for domestic???

Let me make this clear...President Obama is not Hitler nor did he start the ball rolling on these takeovers of our freedom.  This careful planning has been going on for decades.

In 1988, Ezra Taft Benson, President of the LDS church and regarded by millions as a prophet of God, said in a general conference of the church:

“I testify that wickedness is rapidly expanding in every segment of our society. It is more highly organized, more cleverly disguised, and more powerfully promoted than ever before. Secret combinations lusting for power, gain, and glory are flourishing. A secret combination that seeks to overthrow the freedom of all lands, nations, and countries is increasing its evil influence and control over America and the entire world.”

Do we feel despair and discouragement over our individual feelings of powerlessness? Or do we do something to help save the constitution?

If the fire of freedom is starting to wake up inside of you, I strongly encourage you to do the following.

1) Obtain a copy of the 5,000 Year Leap and read it and teach it to your children (order through Amazon for individual copies, or www.nccs.net for bulk orders of 10 or more and the price drops to $5 a copy—then pass them out). Build your freedom library.  I have an Amazon link bar on my website with about a dozen excellent books I recommend you get (www.oaknorton.com).

2) Watch Glenn Beck’s “We Surround Them” special on March 13th on Fox News at 5 PM EST, 3 PM MST (tape it)

Glenn’s show and efforts culminate something that started when a caller (Ed) told him how he was unplugging and felt like he was powerless.  Glenn promised Ed that he was going to prove to him that there were more of us (Americans of principle) than of them (power hungry politicians).  The beginning stages of Glenn’s efforts can be seen on this webpage and the show will explain the next steps of the plan in more detail:
http://www.glennbeck.com/content/articles/article/198/21018/

The core of this effort is that we all need principles and values to root us in the cause or we will fail to come together when society hits really bad times.  His list of principles and values are:

The Nine Principles
1. America is good.
2. I believe in God and He is the Center of my Life.
3. I must always try to be a more honest person than I was yesterday.
4. The family is sacred. My spouse and I are the ultimate authority, not the government.
5. If you break the law you pay the penalty. Justice is blind and no one is above it.
6. I have a right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness, but there is no guarantee of equal results.
7. I work hard for what I have and I will share it with who I want to. Government cannot force me to be charitable.
8. It is not un-American for me to disagree with authority or to share my personal opinion.
9. The government works for me. I do not answer to them, they answer to me.

12 Values

  • Honesty
  • Reverence
  • Hope
  • Thrift
  • Humility
  • Charity
  • Sincerity
  • Moderation
  • Hard Work
  • Courage
  • Personal Responsibility
  • Friendship

Glenn states that if you agree with at least 7 of his 9 principles, then we have strong common ground and can work together. It doesn't matter if you consider yourself a Democrat or Republican. We need to be Americans.  Please watch Glenn’s show on March 13th and help us move the country forward in the way our Founders would want us to save what they created.

Sincerely,

Oak Norton
